Cornwall in January

January 3rd – Crantock Beach, Newquay

The start of the year got of to a flyer, with beautiful clear skies. This lovely image of Crantock Beach, taken by Dom Moore of Surf Sanctuary was a perfect example.

January 7th – Polzeath Beach

Absolutely love this image from Lydia Kent of Polzeath beach at sunset.

January 15th – Porthmeor Beach, St Ives

This wonderful shot of an empty and cold looking Porthmeor beach in St Ives was taken by Aspects Holidays

January 20th – Harbour Beach, St Ives

Even when it’s raining, Cornwall likes to put on a show. A magnificent double rainbow over St Ives harbour. Taken by local artist Sean Taylor.

January 20th – Perranporth Beach

At low tide, Perranporth beach really is nature’s playground. Lovely image taken by Atlantic Blankets

January 22nd – Newquay, Cornwall

Newquay’s coast looking fabulous in the winter sun. Image by Country View Cottages

January 22nd – Mawgan Porth beach, Newquay

Love this photo by Beach Retreats, showing Mawgan Porth beach in Newquay basking in the winter sun.

January 24th – Castle Beach, Falmouth

Looking more like a tropical island, this awesome photo of a paddleboarder enjoying the calm waters of Falmouth Bay was taken by Love Falmouth.

January 29th – St Michaels Mount, Marazion beach

Even through the stormiest weather, i’m sure you would have time to stop and gaze at the magical sunset over St Michaels mount near Penzance. This beautiful photo was taken by local photographer Lee Palmer

January 30th – Gwithian Beach, Hayle

A cold but fresh walk on Gwithian beach with the wind howling and the waves crashing. Can’t beat it!

Cornwall Beaches are the best in the UK…

Crantock Beach Newquay Cornwall

Travel website 101holidays have recently conducted an extensive holiday survey of the UK’s most experienced and influential travel journalists to find their favourite cities, countries, beach resorts and airlines, with Cornwall ranking highly in it’s respective areas.

Within the survey, Cornwall topped the charts in various categories including “What is your favourite beach in the UK?” where the endless sands of Watergate Bay in Newquay came 4th place, while Cornwall as a whole  came first in “UK regions with the most ‘best beach’ votes”, and a very respectable 5th place for “Favourite UK travel destination”.

Well done Cornwall, mixing it up there with the big boys. A true testament to our County’s natural beauty. You can see the whole survey here
